Happy Drew Year!

Ok, we’re kicking off 2011 with a rager of a show at the Black Dog here in Edmonton with the Old Wives. Why? We’ve got a brand new split 7″ petroleum product coming out featuring new tunes from both bands. Check ‘er out, free show too eh?

There’ll be an all ager on February 5th at Mckernan Hall. More details when I get the names of all the bands straight (I think Geister and the Throwaways are in on it though). This is just the beginning of a busy year ahead of the Las Saltes. A few more pieces of vinyl are slated (boooo) to be coming out in the next few months!

Some E-Town shows for ya

Two upcoming hometown throwdowns:

The first is on December 31st at the Bohemia Cafe (downtown e-town). It’s starts in the early afternoon and I think there are ten bands or something that each get 20 minutes. It sounds pretty crazy!

The second is our split 7″ release with the Old Sins on Jan. 26th at the Black Dog. It’s a free show, so come out and pick up the new slice of wax eh?

Otherwise, punk rock karaoke this saturday at the Artery! Check the songlist at http://www.edmontonpunkrockkaraoke.blogspot.com, sign up and come shred some vox for a good cause!

When I got the music

After a busy fall, the end of 2010 is gonna be a slower one for the Srrrates. Give us a break, soon you will have new music (by us) on a number of 7″‘s, a comp (or two) and an new LP. Holy Dina! In the meantime, check out a benefit we’re putting together Dec. 17 and get yer vocal chops ready to shred!

Punk Rock Karaoke!
The Armory Youth Centre is a safe place where at-risk and homeless youth will have access to daytime support and resources from 9AM – 9PM seven days a week.

Our goal is to raise funds to provide the centre with a fully functional music set-up–drums, guitars, bass, amps, etc.–that the kids can use anytime they like. Music has shaped our lives in countless ways, and I can only imagine the impact this gear could have on some of these youth.

Now, on to the fun stuff!

An assortment of Edmonton musicians (members of Famines, Falklands, Brontoscorpio, the Get Down, Blame-Its, Slates, more to come) will be forming like Voltron to perform Punk Rock/Rock n’ Roll classics from all eras and corners of the world on Saturday, December 18, 2010. There will be a song list posted soon, and people will be able to sign up to sing karaoke with a live band.

There will be a huge raffle with prizes donated from amazing local businesses (Listen Records, Padmanadi Restaurant, Nokomis, Acoustic Music Shop, cinder+smoke, Movie Studio, deVine’s Wines, Lucky Strike Tattoo, and more to come), and possibly some other performances. Back line provided by Long & McQuade.

Please help us out by spreading the word, signing up for a song, coming out for the night–whatever you can do, we really appreciate it.

Hey there, thanks for coming to the shows last weekend! The following bands were a real treat to share the stage with and I highly recommend: Auld Beak and Moas (both from Saskatoon), Ian Larue and the Details (both from Winterpeg). Check ’em out if they’re heading your way! Of course let’s not forget ASSX3 from Regina. Ski Trips, possibly the best Mom-friendly words I’ve heard leave Henry’s mouth!

So press is pretty dumb (in my humble and seemingly disenfranchised opinion), but a necessary evil. After all, who is really interested in reading one more vanilla story about how some band formed, their songwriting process or how they got their name? With that in mind, check out the following SLATES related articles wherein old James Stewart speaks on Guitar Hero, Badmotorfinger and All Dressed Ruffles. (I kid I kid, these articles don’t really contain anything Soundgarden or chip related, but they are well written by people we like).

This one’s pretty good too.

No Problem 7″ Release Show – Epilogue

HUGE SHOUT OUT to everyone who came to the No Problem “Your Eyes” 7″ release this past weekend. There is a good good reason why they call it an ALL AGER RAGER !!! Special thanks to Matty / Clean Up Your Act Productions for hosting the evening.

SLATES wouldlike to express a sincere apology to the Edmonton all ages scene for not playing enough hall shows in the past year. We fucked up. We hope we made it up to y’all and hope to play again for you very soon. You were singing along, circle slamming, bangin’ n boppin’…seriously we haven’t been shown that kinda love since the punk shows we experienced in Cuba.

Raptor Strike keep it going boys! xProsecutionx great style and presence, I couldn’t contain myself and had to vault the merch table to get in on the slam! Spastic Panthers … “Cocaine Werewolf” nuff said. You cats ripped, hope to play with you in The Calgary soon. Problem? NO PROBLEM … killed it !!! and extra special thanks to the Chiu Lau Kung Fu crew who came out to support the bands.

Thank you to those who picked up our LP. We also have the album available for free download click here in case mom n dad short-changed your allowance before the show. I hope everyone did themselves a favour and picked up the No Problem “Your Eyes” 7″ because it rips and is everything Edmonton !

We’re playing another All Ager Rager at Avonmore Hall on Oct.16 when The Tranzmitors roll through town, so stay tuned for more good t’ings.

Shows like these remind me of Westmount Hall All Ages shows from 15 years ago. They make me proud to call Edmonton home (if you are from Edmonton and think Edmonton sucks, take a look at yourself and fuck off).

Edmonton has always had it going on. It makes us proud to see the new generation taking it to the nex level. Especially on nites like these.

BOOMER JAMZ
I’ve gotta a reason to feel like asking questions
New beginnings and I’m looking for some answers
I’ve gotta feeling GOTTA GOOD GOOD FEELING !
I don’t mind I DON’T MIND I don’t mind not this time
You’ve got your reasons for leaving and I believe that we made all the right decisions
I’ve gotta reason GOTTA GOOD GOOD REASON !
Left confused by what’s been done
Gotta reason to be making good decisions
New beginnings I’ll be making good decisions
